Autumn/Winter Bathroom Trends 2023
Helen Ray-Dennett, our Senior Marketing Communications Manager here at Mermaid Panels, delves into the latest trends set to dominate bathroom design this autumn/winter:
Dark and Moody
“Embrace the dark side by opting for a design with a moody feel by incorporating a rich, opulent colour palette. A deep colour scheme can create a visually exciting space, allowing you to play around with contrasting colours and materials, such as pairing dark walls with marble, metallic and wood accents.
“The key thing to remember is that dark bathrooms needn’t be dull. For added interest, introduce dark patterns on your walls, floor or accessories – consider colour blocked towels, dark shower panels, herringbone flooring and charcoal sealant.
“The joy of using bathroom wall panels is that they are quick and easy to install, seamlessly incorporating colours and designs to bring this trend to life. Bathroom panels are available in gorgeous hues such as Atlantic, Urban Grey and Cadet, which look striking when used in a wet room or enclosure. If you’re looking for something with texture, opt for panels that mimic natural stone. Volcanic Stone and Indian Stone offer depth and interest, whilst complementing silver and gold beautifully.
Warm Neutrals
“This autumn we’re welcoming warm neutrals and earth-tones to create an inviting space that moves away from the common white, minimalist design we see in the bathroom.
“Warm neutrals are gaining popularity due to their ability to create a multi-dimensional design that takes inspiration from the natural world. Earthy hues are perfect for providing a neutral base that can be built upon, incorporating textures and materials that fall into the same colour palette.
“When incorporating these shades into the bathroom, use your base as a starting colour, which can be achieved through paint, tiles or wall panels. Adding different textures and materials can build up the scheme. The easiest way to do this is through bathroom wall panels – wood and stone finishes are perfect for this, particularly when your chosen panel has multiple earth tones blended in.
Go Green
“Green is one of the hottest bathroom trends this autumn/winter, with many homeowners opting to incorporate the colour into their bathroom. Miles apart from the faux pas of avocado suites, the modern green bathroom creates a refreshing and invigorating feeling.
“The palette has a huge range from pastels like Pistachio and leafy sage, to dramatically dark green – all of which work beautifully in a bathroom setting. If your aim is to create a soothing and serene space, then consider incorporating this hue.
“Greens pair incredibly well with both wood and stone finishes, popular complementing bathroom panels include marble options, both dark and light veined, warm woods and neutral hues. You could also use your bathroom wall panels to inject your chosen green into your shower cubicle.
Bold and bright
“Looking to make a statement? A bold and bright shower or wet room can be the perfect way to add a point of interest and inject personality. Patterns are a great way of adding fun into a design and when carefully considered, needn’t overwhelm the space. Tile-effect finishes, such as Abruzzo, are a firm favourite of mine and is a great way to dip your toes into pattern whilst still providing a neutral colour palette.
“We all know that different colours can impact our mood. If you like to shower in the morning, incorporating a bright colour pop in your bathroom can provide the perfect wake up call, especially on dark and dreary days. Aqua and Mist are the perfect hues to pep you up and put a smile on your face.
“If you’re the type of person who gets bored of a colour or design quickly, then panels are a great choice as they’re much easier to replace than tiles. You can go for that daring design without a long-term commitment. That being said, it’s important to opt for panels that will stand the test of time. Look for options, such as those offered by Mermaid, that provide peace of mind with a 15-year guarantee.”
